Medical Obesity Care

Evidence-Based, Personalised, Compassionate.

At My Best Weight, we treat obesity as a chronic medical condition using a structured clinical approach that combines comprehensive medical assessment, evidence-based medications, and nutritional or behavioural support when needed.

Reframing Excess Weight & Obesity

  • Body weight is influenced by biological, genetic, neuro-hormonal and environmental factors.
  • Obesity is not caused by a lack of willpower or motivation.
  • Modern treatment may include medications, behavioural and nutritional therapies.

Our Model of Care

A structured medical approach to obesity care.

  • Medical Assessment
A comprehensive consultation reviewing your current health, medical and weight history, and previous experiences.
  • Individualised Treatment
We discuss options including medication (expected benefits, potential side effects, and how these can be managed), as well as the role of nutrition and behavioural support. Together we develop a personalised care plan with clear guidance on starting treatment and what to expect.
  • Ongoing Follow-Up
Obesity is a chronic condition. Regular follow-up and monitoring support long-term health improvements, with adjustments to your care plan as needed.

Who We Help

Services developed by internationally recognised experts in obesity.

  • Adults living with obesity & weight-related complications
Where excess weight is negatively affecting health - medical or metabolic health, physical function, psychosocial wellbeing and future health risk.
  • An individualised approach
Obesity was traditionally defined by BMI alone and while useful as a screening tool, it may not capture the full picture. Instead, we focus on how excess weight affects health rather than size alone, allowing care to be tailored to each person’s circumstances.
  • Tried "everything" without adequate response
Most people have focused on nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle measures repeatedly. However, weight regulation is complex and biologically regulated, and many people find that - despite doing everything “right” - additional medical support may be needed to manage weight and improve long-term health.
  • Complex medical conditions
Our clinicians have experience managing obesity alongside complex health issues and work to develop safe, individualised treatment plans rather than excluding people because of co-existing medical conditions.
  • Already on obesity medication
Our multidisciplinary team - including dietitians, exercise and behavioural specialists - can support people already on obesity medications prescribed by their GP or another provider. These services can be accessed independently of a consultation with our doctors and focus on managing side effects and integrating medication safely and effectively into a long-term health strategy.
  • Previous medication difficulties
Some people have previously stopped obesity medications because of cost, side effects or a poor treatment experience. As expert in obesity, we use refined clinical strategies to prevent side effects while optimising dose, cost and response.
  • Previous weight stigma
Many people living with obesity have felt blamed/shamed when seeking support for their weight. Our clinic provides compassionate, evidence-based medical care with respect and understanding.
  • Previous bariatric surgery
We provide routine long term follow up after bariatric surgery (in Ireland or abroad). We know response can be variable and weight regain may occur for many reasons. We discuss medication where appropriate, to support long-term weight and health outcomes.

Redefining Response

  • We not only follow internationally recognised clinical guidelines & treatment pathways, we write them!
  • We look beyond numbers on a scales to focus on health outcomes.
